Celebrate the Life of Frank Calabrese on September 25, 2011

Hi, Everyone:

The restoration of Frank’s favorite truck has been completed – down to the last nut and bolt – and it’s a thing of beauty. It’s now time to celebrate!

The truck will be trailored from Los Angeles to San Luis Obispo for a public event. In celebration of his life, we’re having a little get together on his birthday, September 25, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. Note: This is an updated start time.

Please R.S.V.P. (call or email by September 4th so that I can order cake, supplies, beverages, etc.), and let me know whether or not you can come.

Frank's Truck: The Way It Was

We’ll have some cake and raise a toast to Frank, share some memories and laughter, take photos to be posted on the site, unveil the truck and maybe even take rides.

I hope you can all be there…looking forward to seeing you. I will send you a map and directions as I hear from you all.

The Summer of the Truck

Hi All -

I just wanted to let you know that Frank’s ’58 GMC truck has been completely restored and will be trailored up to SLO on the weekend of September 25th. I’m planning a party of sorts. There’ll be cake of course, and truck rides and celebration of birthdays (Frank’s, mine, our godchild’s, the truck owner – Rory, and anyone else’s whose birthday falls in September). And, thanks again to Woody for all the work on Frank’s website, you can see the latest and greatest pics of the restoration process.

More details about the event will follow, but I wanted to give you all a heads up in case you can come and celebrate with me and Frank’s family.

If any of you are in contact with other buddies, members of KCPR radio group, etc. Would you help spread the word for me? Have them get in touch with me via email: pklogan@usa.net to let me know if they can make it. I want to make sure I have enough time set aside for truck rides and enough cake, beverages, etc.

The Frank Calabrese truck is really coming along! They expect it to be done in the next couple of months. Then it will be time to transport it up here and we’ll drive it around Cal Poly campus and take pictures. If you would like to attend this event, please email me at pklogan@usa.net and I will notify you when the truck will be coming to San Luis Obispo.

Cal Poly Memorial Scholarship Update

The Cal Poly Memorial Scholarship in Frank’s name has reached $9K in 2011. I have begged, borrowed and sold some of Frankie’s stuff (ham radio equipment, electronics, etc) to help raise funds. Please help us reach our 2012 goal of $10K by contributing today.

Truck Renovation Update #1

Frank’s truck renovation is moving along. It has now been sanded down to the bare metal and will be primed next. The truck has had a colorful paint history. (Click any image to see a larger version.)

It appears that the original color was a dark blue. From there it was aqua, yellow, aqua and yellow again. It’s going to be repainted the original dark blue. The white bumpers and other white coated areas will be restored back to the original chrome.

The wood slatted bed is being replaced as well as every nut, bolt and screw, and miscellaneous items including an original stock radio. The engine and transmission and other working parts are in good shape and just need a little TLC to bring them back to a happy hum. As more in-progress photos become available, they will be posted for you to enjoy.

The truck should be completely restored in time for next summer’s KCPR get together so that Rory can drive the truck up to the event. More about that later.
